Fantasy...what seems an indulgence of youth, in times of hardship, can be an absolute lifeline for all. A sanctuary can be built and created, molecule by molecule, made up of magic and fairy dust or simply from nothing but thoughts. Some of us dabble in the shallows of imagination while others drink deeply from the waters. And out of these deep seas, creation of all types is born. The artist that dives so deeply into the abyss comes to an internal, inescapable knowing of their own voice. Those brave enough to dive into strange places and dreams and worlds, they are rewarded with a lonely echo until they are sure, with every reverberation, it is their own voice and it is who they are and the creation is of their own making.

Mady drinks deeply from worlds of her own making. Detailed deeper each time she returns to her creation until it begins to breathe and exist on its own and eventually, she will have created her own world.

While studios are still off limits, we did get to chat with Mady for a Q&A as she shares her world she’s creating and how she goes about that process below:

***

Q.) What are your favorite computer programs right now for achieving your work?

A.) I pretty much only use Photoshop for my work at this point.

Q.) How would you describe the subject or elaborate on the content matter for this show?

A.) Most of the content from this show revolves around a fictional narrative I have been working on called NEST. This world is centered around the rebirth of human civilization 250 million years into Earth’s future, focuses on the timelessness of the human condition: On love, life, and suffering.

Q.) Storyline is very important in your work. How do you choose a narrative and blend that into the artwork?

A.) As stated previously, the work comes from a preexisting narrative that I have created. The moments that I choose to depict from this narrative are those of intimacy or character growth, moments of what makes us human.

Q.) Describe your practice/process with 5 words.

A.) Epiphany, Overthinking, Action, Creation, Satisfaction

Q.) Besides animation, what other art forms do you dabble in?

A.) I do most traditional art mediums such as acrylic painting and charcoal/graphite drawing. Recently I have been delving into screen printing.
