This artwork asks the viewer to take a closer look. If you do slow down and look closely, you’ll be surprised to see each piece is completely made of leaves and flower petals. Back in 2015 Shane McCallister began picking up leaves and flower petals that he found interesting. He would then scan these botanicals with no plan to use them for anything in particular, he simply was drawn to them. After months of play and experiment he began making “expressionist” digital collage using the leaves and petals as digital brush strokes. He puts them together layer by layer using Photoshop to create colorful collages full of different textures. Shane’s work asks the viewer to look for the potential in the everyday things.
Music plays a big part in Shane’s process. Whenever you find him making art you will hear music playing in the air. You may even find connections to modern music techniques such sampling in his work. So, it is no surprise that Shane has made many portraits of rock n’ rollers and hip-hoppers which are on display in this collection of artworks. Musicians ranging from Tupac Shakur to Bob Dylan make up this collection of artwork.
